Workplace Health and Safety has released the OHS Code 2009 that replaces the previous 2006 edition. The changes have an effective date of July 1, 2009. A representative from Workplace Health and Safety will provide an overview of the changes.

When: May 28, 2009 from 8:00am - 5:00pm

Cost: $115 for CSSE Chapter members,$135 for non-affiliates

Speaker: Paul Watts, Rock Well Animation.
Topic: Machinery Safety and the Migration of Safety Categories Standards.
Speaker Profile: A Calgary Based, Machinery Safety Product Specialist. Paul is an apprentice trained engineer from the UK with 15 years engineering experience, who has been working as a Machinery Safety Product Specialist for the last 7 years. Paul is new to Canada having only been here since October 2008, and is very keen to become an active member of the CSSE.
Topic Summary: Canadian standard CSA Z432-04, Safeguarding of Machinery - Section 5.6 of this standard refers to risk reduction and talks about the protective measures and control circuit performance according to European Standard ISO 139489-1:1999 (Safety Categories Standard) at the beginning of 2010, this standard becomes obsolete the choice of two new functional safety standards EN ISO 13849-1:2006 and IEC 62061 will need to be made. The presentation will talk about the migration of the Safety Categories from EN954-1 (ISO 13849-1:1999), to EN ISO13849-1:2006 and ultimately to IEC 62061. What the implications are and what people will need to do to remain compliant. The intention of the presentation is to demystify these changes.


Pre-registration and payment is required! Guests and members attending without pre-registration prior to midnight on June 4, 2009, will pay an additional $10.00 over the registration fee. If you are unable to register by the early bird cut off, we would still like you to register prior to Monday morning to allow the Hotel Catering enough time to prepare for us. An accurate count of those attending allows the hotel to assign the most appropriate sized room and ensures that there will be enough lunch for everyone.
